Ford Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, Shelby Mustan
A guide to the available supercharger applications for the 2005-2007 Mustang GT

Supercharging your Mustang GT is one of the simplest ways to increase the 4.6-liter 3-valve V8 engine by 25% or more. With the Mustang's popularity, several manufacturers have come out with supercharger systems adding anywhere from 100 to 500 horsepower depending on boost and other modifications. Twin-screw, roots type, and centrifugal applications are available ranging from simple setups designed for drivability to high boost setups for drag racing. We have outlined many of the various applications so you can see the systems side by side.

Ford Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, Shelby Mustan Ford Racing Supercharger Kit
Type: Twin-Screw
Power Gain: 100-200 bhp (400-500 bhp total)
Price Range: $4,899.99 - $6,819.99

Ford and Whipple co-developed a twin-screw supercharger for the 3-valve Mustang V8. Whipple and Ford both offer their separate versions, with Ford’s available directly from the Ford Racing Parts catalog. The FRP package includes the supercharger, drive belt, and installation accessories, and is available in a black or polished finish. The base kit provides 400 horsepower at 5 psi of boost, and a 500 horsepower version is available that includes a smaller pulley, intercooler, and duel fuel pump. A Pro-Cal tool voucher is included along with engine calibration from Ford Racing. The package retails at $4,899.00. Contact: www.FordRacingParts.com.

Ford Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, Shelby Mustan Kenne Bell 2.6L Big Bore Supercharger Kit
Type: Twin-Screw
Power Gain: 171-223 bhp (471-523 bhp total)
Price Range: $4599.00 - $5699

Kenne Bell has been putting twin-screw superchargers on Mustangs for more than fifteen years. The kit developed for the 2005+ Mustang GT uses their 2.6L Big Bore supercharger that has a 6-25 psi range and is rated up to 950 bhp. Construction is done with CNC machined 100% billet aluminum and steel for strength and durability. Two main packages are offered: 5 psi non-intercooled and 8 psi intercooled. The non-intercooled version increases horsepower by over 50% to 471 bhp, while the more powerful version nets 523 bhp and has potential to reach over 800 bhp. As an added bonus, kits are tuned in-house for any horsepower level so retuning is unnecessary if additional upgrades are added. All Kenne Bell kits are covered by a one year warranty. Ford Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, Shelby Mustan MagnaCharger Intercooled Supercharger System
Type: Roots
Power Gain: 125 bhp (425 bhp total)
Price Range: $5,150-$5850

MagnaCharger’s supercharger is the only roots style system in the group. It utilizes their 5th generation MP112 supercharger that comes in both intercooled and non-intercooled form. Durability is a priority, and the system has been tested with 15 lbs of pressure @ 15,000 rpm for a full 24 hours. Power is improved throughout the entire rpm range, and the intercooled version adds up to an extra 125 bhp. The kit comes with a hand held computer calibrator that re-programs the ECU to account for the additional influx of air, while storing the factory settings in case they are needed in the future. In addition to the 3-year limited warranty on the supercharger offered by MagnaCharger, customers also have an option to purchase a 3-year, 36,000 mile limited warranty for $200. Contact: www.MagnaCharger.com.

Ford Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, Shelby Mustan Paxton Supercharger System
Type: Centrifugal
Power Gain: 120-170 bhp (420-470 bhp total)
Price Range: $3,889.95 - $4,098.95

Paxton’s supercharger lineup for the 2005+ Mustang GT include the use of their gear-driven NOVI 1200 (optional) and NOVI 2200 (HO) centrifugal superchargers. The standard system utilizes the 1200 series supercharger and produces an extra 120 bhp at 8-9 psi, while the High Output system, using the 2220 series supercharger with an integrated air/air charger cooler, produces an extra 170 bhp at 9-10 psi. Both packages include a DiabloSport Predator hand-held programmer to re-flash the factory computer and allow for additional adjustments. The standard package can also be purchased with the standard package at an additional cost but requires ECM programming and additional parts. Less expensive tuner kits are also available if you want a more custom setup, and do not include the fuel pump, fuel injectors, MAF housing, and DiabloSport engine programmers. Paxton's supercharger packages are 50-state smog legal and come with a 3-year limited on the supercharger. Contact: www.PaxtonAuto.com.

Ford Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, Shelby Mustan Procharger HO Intercooled Supercharger System
Type: Centrifugal
Power Gain: 160 rwhp (460 rwhp total)
Price Range: Unavailable

ProCharger superchargers have won 17 national championships in the last 3 years, and that technology finds its way into the company’s street applications. A patented supercharger design that features a self-contained oil system eliminates the need for tapping the engine’s oil supply and risking clogged or leaking oil lines. As a result from not having to rely on heated engine oil, the system runs more efficiently and much cooler than standard systems. ProCharger’s standard system includes an intercooler and 10 psi of boost running through their P-1SC-1 supercharger that produces 540+ bhp. High output components are available, including the race-ready D-1SC supercharger and upgraded drive belts and intercoolers. ProCharger offers a 1-year warranty with a 3-year extended warranty also available. Contact: www.ProCharger.com.

Ford Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, Shelby Mustan Roush ROUSHcharger Supercharger Kit

Price Range: $5,699.00 - $6,125.00

The same supercharger that is found in the Roush Stage III Mustang can also be purchased separately from Roush. The intercooled twin-screw supercharger provides 5 lbs of boost and increases horsepower by 115, resulting in 415 bhp for 2005-2006 Mustang GT’s after the ECM is calibrated. For owners of 2007 Mustang GT’s a supplemental kit is required for installation, adding an additional $336 to the cost of the package. The RoushCharger comes with a standard 3-year/36,000 mile drivetrain warranty and is available from select Ford dealerships and other retailers. Contact: www.RoushPerf.com.
