The 2009 Glass Roof Mustang will be available this summer as a $1,995 option.
At the Detroit Auto Show, Ford unveiled its 2009 Glass Roof Mustang. The new glass roof will be available as an option on both the V-6 and GT models beginning in the summer. The option will sell for $1,995 and is a less expensive option than a convertible.
The glass roof is made of tinted privacy glass that reduces infrared sunlight. It also improves the vehicle’s interior cooling by 50 percent. If you want to completely block out the sun, a manual blind is built in.
The glass also protects interior fabrics from sun damage and Ford engineers claim the new roof also helps improve sound acoustics. The roof also maintains the structural integrity of the Mustang and is constructed as a safety glass in case it shatters.
While some may question the overall safety of replacing a steel roof with a glass one, Ford engineers are quick to point out that the Glass Roof Mustang has undergone rigorous tests and that includes water, air leakage, durability, squeak and rattle dynamics.
